Primary Health Networks (PHNs) have an expanded role in the planning and commissioning of primary mental health care services.

Northern Queensland Primary Health Network's (NQPHN's) objectives in the mental health priority area include:

  • to increase access for North Queenslanders to access mental health services appropriate to their individual needs
  • to provide North Queenslander primary health care providers with an integrated approach to mental health care and suicide prevention
  • to commission quality mental health services to improve outcomes for patients.

NQPHN leads mental health and suicide prevention planning, commissioning, and integration of services at a regional level to improve outcomes for people with or at risk of mental illness and/or suicide, in partnership with the state government, general practitioners, non-government organisations, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) providers, and other related services, organisations, and providers.
