NQPHN Immunisation Program
Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) runs an immunisation program to support General Practice in achieving childhood immunisation targets, and additionally provides practical support and education for staff in effective immunisation practice.
Working collaboratively with stakeholders and general practices, NQPHN aims to continue to improve and maintain the immunisation coverage rates within the PHN footprint. Promotion of the General Practice Immunisation Incentive Program (GPII) of achieving childhood immunisation targets of a minimum of 95 per cent will assist in the reduction of vaccine preventable diseases. Highlighting the importance of best practice in immunisation, distributing immunisation resources and information, and planning workshops are some of the ways NQPHN can assist General Practices with meeting the immunisation targets.
NQPHN provides support to general practice to assist with immunisation upon request by the practice, or in areas where data highlights the rates as being less than what is currently required to maintain herd immunity.
Information on Vaccine Management and Resources
Vaccine management involves the transport, storage and handling of vaccines (most commonly known as the “cold chain”) within the safe temperature range of 2°C to 8°C from the place of manufacture to the point of administration. This temperature range is recommended because outside of this range, vaccines may (very quickly) lose their potency. The system includes all the people, processes and equipment that ensure a potent vaccine reaches recipients.
