Health in my region

kids-hpNorthern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) is working to make health better for all people in North Queensland. We have a focus on improving health for populations that are most at risk, such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and older Australians. We are actively engaging people in communities through our Community Advisory Groups and we also welcome feedback on health services and issues.

PRACTICE LEADERSHIP ADVANTAGE MASTERCLASS | General practitioners, practice managers, and practice nurses from across the Northern Queensland PHN region came together in Townsville over the weekend to participate in the Practice Leadership Advantage (PLA) Masterclass.

Presented by Dr Chris Bollen and Rod Buchecker from BMP Consulting, the Masterclass built on knowledge learned from the previous three PLA workshops, focusing on business sustainability in the current environment and engaged leadership to support future growth of general practices.

Keep an eye out for the opening of registrations for the 2020 PLA program commencing in February 2020.

Jean Hailes for Women's Health is inviting women and girls around Australia to unlock their powers for good health during Women’s Health Week. The national health awareness campaign is a timely reminder to all women to look after themselves, inside and out.

During the week, we encourage communities and workplaces to get involved by sharing Jean Hailes for Women's Health's health messages, hosting or attending a health event, and signing up to receive five days of free, entertaining health information.

Women’s Health Week is a great opportunity to learn more, and celebrate good health and wellbeing with tens of thousands of women and girls across Australia. BUMP2BUBBA PROJECT | Apunipima Cape York Health Council‘s Bump2Bubba project focuses on family nutrition, developed with the communities of Cape York.

Apunipima has developed culturally appropriate resources to support the delivery of optimal nutrition messages in routine primary health care practice by Baby One Program and other primary health care staff. Some of the resources include these strong food plates, tin mugs, and magnets to showcase traditional foods and promote key health messages to achieve ideal health for mums and bubs.

HIT THE HILL TOWNSVILLE | Over the weekend, six team members from Northern Queensland PHN's Townsville office participated in #HitTheHill.

Hit the Hill involved participants walking from the peak of Castle Hill to the bottom and back continuously for 24 hours, with the aim to break down the stigma attached to suicide and mental health in the Townsville community.

All funds raised from the event go to headspace Townsville.
