Our vision is to shape a healthy future for all northern Queenslanders

Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) works to improve health outcomes by connecting care, supporting primary health providers, and commissioning services where they’re needed most.

Our region spans a massive half a million square kilometres, from south of Mackay all the way to the Torres Strait. Across this beautiful landscape, our rural and remote GPs, clinicians, and the primary health care workforce are the true bedrock of our communities.

We support over 700,000 people across the Torres and Cape, Cairns, Townsville, and Mackay regions.

Our core functions are

Commissioning

Commissioning targeted services that respond to local health challenges and opportunities.

Capacity building

Strengthening the primary healthcare workforce and supporting innovation, data and quality improvement, business sustainability, and reform.

Coordinating

Coordinating and connecting care across the system to improve access as well as patient and provider experiences.

Watch: What NQPHN does in three minutes

Our work comes down to our ‘three C’s’: we commission services where there are gaps, we build the capacity of the local health workforce, and we coordinate across governments, funders, and clinicians.

Press play to hear how it comes together for the communities we serve and why there is no better place in Australia to live, work, and practice medicine.

Our priorities are health equity healthy system healthy workforce healthy intelligence healthy organisation healthy communities
