How to work therapeutically with individuals involved in the criminal justice system

This webinar will be presented by Clara Fritchley (PhD candidate, The Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use, Clinical Psychologist). Clara is a clinical psychologist with over twenty years of experience, in both forensic and clinical sectors of mental health care.

She has recently completed a PhD examining therapeutic experiences of people involved in the justice system and has a strong interest in how the criminal justice system impacts emotional wellbeing. In particular, she specialises in work with adolescents and adults who have complex presentations, particularly those who have endured trauma and/or experienced systemic and structural barriers to good mental health. Clara is passionate about increasing understanding of the ways in which therapeutic spaces that prioritise the uniqueness of every individual’s experience can be created, and how these spaces then work to cultivate individual emotional flourishing. 

By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

• recognise the challenges that arise when addressing the mental health needs of individuals involved in the criminal justice system
• understand how to conduct multi-layered case formulations to guide therapeutic work with individuals with mental health conditions who are involved in the criminal justice system
• identify core clinical skills necessary for successful therapeutic work with individuals with mental health conditions who are involved in the criminal justice system.
