The Refugee Health Network of Queensland, in partnership with Brisbane South and Brisbane North Primary Health Networks, invites you to join us for a GP clinical education event, 'The Refugee Health Journey in Primary Care'. The Refugee Health Network Queensland’s GP Fellow, Dr Rachel Claydon, and Medeco Inala’s GP, Dr Deborah Hillman-White will provide an overview of the recent changes for new arrivals from refugee backgrounds and how to access support for patients in primary care.
A case discussion will enable all speakers to demonstrate how their services can assist individuals with specific needs to work closely with health care providers.
We will also have the opportunity to hear from community members about barriers to accessing primary care and what may help.
Speakers
- Dr Rachel Claydon, GP at Mater Refugee Complex Care Clinic, Master of Ceremonies.
- Dr Deborah Hillman-White, GP at Medeco Inala.
- Dr Rebecca Farley - Clinical Director of Mater Refugee Complex Care Clinic.
- representatives from the Mater Refugee Health Advisory Group (known as the “G11”), a refugee health service and Multicultural Australia.
Topics
- Refugee journey abroad, arrival and support from a refugee health service, settlement journey (Multicultural Australia), linkage with a General Practitioner and practice, cultural and community perspective on the journey, trauma informed care.
