We were so proud to #Getupstandupshowup alongside our First Nations communities at the many events hosted across the Cairns, Townsville, and Mackay regions.
NQPHN CEO Robin Whyte celebrated with Centacare FNQ Executive Director Anita Veivers at Centacare FNQ's Thomas Street facility for NAIDOC breakfast celebrations.
At the NAIDOC Week Corporate Breakfast at the Ville Casino, Townsville staff were moved by the traditional dances and guest speakers Professor Gracelyn Smallwood, Uncle Hans Pearson, Gail Mabo, and Dr Peter Malouf who spoke about the NAIDOC theme and what it meant to them.
Staff joined Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS) and Mackay HHS in NAIDOC celebrations featuring speeches, digeridoo playing, traditional dancing, a variety of cakes and traditional foods, and singing in traditional language.
Staff at all three sites proudly and loudly marched in NAIDOC Week marches held in Cairns, Townsville, and Mackay to show their support and commitment to NAIDOC and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities health and wellbeing.
NQPHN reinforced its commitment to continue building our strong relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to improve their health and wellbeing, healing, and closing the gap.
NQPHN committed to continuing to reflect on the learnings gained from #NAIDOC2022 and to facilitate growth as an organisation and in our personal journeys to carry the momentum for change towards reconciliation and a better future for all Australians.
